Rui Gonçalves

 

Rui Gonçalves (Braga, 1982), completes his Architecture Degree by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto in 2007. After working with J.M. Carvalho Araújo, he concludes his thesis on Rafael Moneo, presented at IJUP 08 – University Young Investigators conference.

After the 2nd internship in Oporto (2006-2011), where he wins the Pyramid Channel Bridge Design Competition (Aveiro) and designs schools (Porto, Vimioso) and Elderly Community Centre in Porto, he initiates his independent practice in 2007.

The design and construction supervision of Costa Verde Kindergarten (Espinho, 2008-2013) starts his involvement in project coordination and construction management of commercial and housing projects, having won the Limited Competition for Housing Complex in Azurara in 2013. Joins Studio Toggle in 2015.

Pedro Varela

 

Pedro de Azambuja Varela is an architect graduated in architecture at FAUP (Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto) in 2006. After working in Vienna and New York, he started his Ph.D. studies at FAUP in 2008 researching knowledge in the area of architecture design and computation.

In 2012 he creates the company AZVAvisuals promoting innovative work in graphic and web design, programming, image manipulation and advanced 3D modeling and rendering. He is currently a University of Porto active researcher in digital architecture at the DFL (Digital Fabrication Laboratory) and a partner in Studio Toggle from 2016.

Mani Kuruvila

 

 

Mani Kuruvila joined Studio Toggle in January 2019 and has since been a part of the team as a Project manager. He completed his Bachelor of Architecture from University of Kerala, graduating in 2006 and went on to work for a year in Delhi. A post-graduation in 2009 from CEPT, Ahmedabad with Sustainability as the core subject influenced his approach towards Architecture. He found the right space with similar ideologies at Good Earth, where he worked for 7 years and was heading the Design studio for the last three years of his tenure. He then joined SJB school of architecture and planning, Bangalore, to follow his passion in academics.

As an Associate Professor, he mentored students for 3 years and was instrumental in getting students to travel as a part of architectural education. In addition to domestic trips, he has taken student delegates to Architectural expeditions to Japan and Australia, including a 2-week workshop with the University of Adelaide.

A team player at work and a good friend to his fellows, he enjoys music, occasionally sings, is a good sportsman and loves to travel and explore new places.

Elisa Peyerl

Elisa Peyerl joined Studio Toggle in 2019. She completed her Architecture Degree at the Faculty of Architecture of the UniCeub – Centro Universitário de Brasília in 2018. After working with União Centro Oeste Brasileira da IASD, and Veneziano Arquitetura, she concluded her thesis in Brasilia, Brazil. In the 2nd internship in Veneziano Arquitetura (2016-2018), she starts her involvement in the project coordination of the Divisao Sul Americana da IASD, a corporate office renovation. After the bachelor graduation, she works as a graduate architect in União Centro Oeste Brasileira da IASD, staying there for four months. Later, she has the opportunity to study for one month at LADO School, Silver Spring, U.S.A, about Architecture and English language. She also had the opportunity to contribute as a volunteer for the Habitat to Humanity, ReStore, Silver Spring, U.S.A.

Byron Villa Augustin

Byron Villa Agustin joined Studio Toggle as Office Admin on November 2018. He provides organization and administrative support to the Studio Toggle Team. Native-born from the Philippines, Byron brings a wealth of experience in customer/client support, auditing, administrative support and logistical coordination culminating from over 5 years of experience in the hotel industry. With an unexplored appreciation for architecture, he decided to change his career due to interests more centred on interior designing. Future aspirations make him hopeful to understand more about the creative processes of the industry that would inspire enhanced design ideas usable in future home designs back in his country. During his free time, you will find him enjoying multi-cultural TV series and he is also an avid Batman design collector.

Najamun Nisha

Nisha joined Studio Toggle in 2022. She completed her B.Arch from Goa College of Architecture, India in 2017 where she topped her class and was awarded the IIA Goa Chapter Gold medal and Linc Property Gold Medal. She represented her College for NIASA India and UDRI’s Charles Correa Gold Medal Award for the best thesis. She was amongst the top 20 meritorious students to win the Goa Scholars Scholarship from the Government of Goa, India. She did her internship with the firm, Design Workshop Goa; where she was amongst the team of five to win a design competition on ‘Housing in Smart Cities’. After a year of working with MSS design, Goa she went on to pursue her masters in Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design at the Politecnico Di Milano,Italy and graduated in 2020. The course focussed on the role of public spaces, open places, productive landscapes and infrastructures with particular sensitivity to the issues of sustainability and environmental compatibility. During the post-graduation program she was selected for Idea League Summer School on Ethics of New Biotechnologies at TU Delft in the Netherlands.

She is enthusiastic about sketching and photography and is an avid traveller.

Nivedita Raverkar

Nivedita Raverkar joined Studio Toggle in 2022. She completed her Bachelor’s in 2012 from Dr. BN college of Architecture, Pune and went on to work in Mumbai with Sanjay Puri Architects for 3 years. There her project ’18 Screens House’ won the 31st Cycle Award. Her projects ranged from multi-tower residential complexes to large houses across India. With a keen interest in learning on site work she joined Total Environment, Bangalore as a manager where she had the opportunity to build skills in project management whilst working on high end residences with many stake holders. She later joined DSP Design Associates with a focus on site coordination, specifically in interior design.

She is passionate about helping the environment and worked with VOLUNS on their project to conserve the wetlands in Valencia. She has also had the opportunity to contribute to various NGOs like OASIS-Mumbai & CARE-Bangalore.

Faraaz Ahmed

Faraaz joined Studio Toggle in 2022. He graduated as an Architect from the Faculty of Architecture, Bharath University, India, in 2014. Post-graduating, he was a part of L’Avenier D’Auroville, where he assisted the town planning committee for the utopian township of Auroville in Tamil Nadu, India. His more recent endeavours have been in renowned practices across India, including the likes of RSP-India, Venkataramanan Associates, Bangalore and PSDA, New Delhi, specializing in multiple disciplines of architecture, including sectors like hospitality, large-scale residential developments, IT campuses, public spaces and Research & Development campuses.

He is passionate about design that cultivates cities and neighbourhoods while amalgamating an aesthetic sensibility that blends in with the region’s local flavour. He loves to travel and explore different cultural vistas and constantly learns from each experience.

Outside of work, he has a keen ear for music, and wildlife and is also an avid football enthusiast.

Rahul Ciby

Rahul Ciby joined Studio Toggle in 2022. He received his architectural degree from the Wadiyar Centre for Architecture in Mysore in 2021. He concluded his thesis on Ephemeral Architecture and temporary structures with a different perspective on how a heritage city can coexist with transience. He is still passionate in ephemeral architecture and hopes to return to it in the future.  After finishing his thesis, he went on to intern with RC Architects (Rohan Chavan) in Mumbai, a firm that specialised in creating public sanitation spaces and affordable housing. After completing his internship, he continued working there for a year, where he worked on multiple competitions and projects. He was part of the team among the top 10 finalist for the prestigious Debut Award at the Trienal de Lisboa under the theme “City as a Spiritual Factory”.

Ashlon Frank

Ashlon Frank obtained his B. Arch from the University of Bangalore, in 2015. He did his internship at Charles Correa Foundation, where he worked on community projects of different typologies that aimed at enhancing the conditions of urban, rural and historic settlements in Goa, India. He later went on to work in an architecture firm (in Bangalore, India) where he gained experience in design development, detailing and coordination of projects in the public and private sector. He also initiated, documented and worked on private projects that were focused on the vernacular architecture of his home town, Mangalore.

In 2017, he was granted a scholarship to Japan by the Tadao Ando Foundation to learn about traditional and contemporary Art and Architecture of Japan. During the course of his scholarship, he interned for a brief period at Takenaka Corporation in Osaka. Ashlon joined Studio Toggle in 2018.
